Quite recently, Ronny Belmans of the Belgian laundry Clova was called by a young woman who was very upset. Working for one of the hospitals that the Clova laundry serves, the young doctor had put her necklace into her coat pocket the day before.
When she realized this on a Friday morning, she immediately called the laundry. The jewelry was of a modern and light design, so her hopes were low. An employee in the sorting area would not have discovered it by manually checking the garment.
Luckily Clova operates a soiled side sorting system from Inwatec. A robot picks up the individual laundry pieces from conveyor belts and transports them to RFID chip readers. Directly after that, an X-ray scanner automatically detects unwanted hidden objects in the pockets and rejects these garments. Only approved laundry articles are forwarded further to be sorted accordingly by the system. Harmful foreign items such as needles, scissors, scalpels, etc. are discovered – and also small items that can harm the machines and are dearly missed.

Ronny Belmans discovered the necklace in the reject box. The owner could retrieve it during her break and wear it on Friday night when she hit the party scene in Antwerp – thanks to ODIN the X-Ray Scanner!
